Deborah Shanks, DVM

Dr. Deborah Shanks knew she wanted to be a veterinarian from the time she was able to say the word. The first time she stepped into a vet clinic and the vet let her use the stethoscope to listen to her Grandma’s dog’s heart, she realized what her true calling was.

Dr. Shanks earned her Bachelor’s Degree in Animal Science from Texas Tech University in 2008 and her Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from St. George’s University in Grenada, West Indies. After completing her clinical year at the University of Florida in 2013, she began her career in Arlington, Texas and joined the team at Boulevard Animal Hospital in February 2020.

While Dr. Shanks is passionate about all aspects of veterinary medicine, her special interests include senior pet care, anesthesiology, and preventive care. Dr. Shanks prides herself on her dedication and ability to go above and beyond for each and every animal and her goal is to make sure every pet is living their best life. She is constantly striving to expand her experience and knowledge-base by attending workshops, conferences, and through various continuing education programs.

Beyond her professional commitments, Dr. Shanks is a devoted wife and mother of three daughters. Her two rescue dogs, Jellybean and Norbert, round out their full house; there is never a dull moment in their household. Dr. Shanks enjoys spending time with family and friends and traveling any chance she gets. Fun fact – Dr. Shanks went to Grapevine High School and played the bass clarinet and saxophone in the marching band
